What's important when you visit a bike shop

We asked our followers (in collaboration with the Warwickshire Cyclist) what's important when you visit a bike shop. This is what they had to say.

Connections

For many, it's all about relationships. Walking into a bike shop and knowing the names of the team. Building a friendship with the mechanics, who know how you ride, where you ride and what you need from the bike.

Building relationships with front of house who know the best places to take the kids for a ride in Kenilworth (you can't beat Kenilworth Greenway for a traffic-free child friendly flat route). Who know the best loops around Warwickshire. Who remembers the latest bike you bought and ask how yo're getting on. Who ask how the event went. Who know what's coming up in Kenilworth, Warwickshire, the Midlands and beyond.

One things that was disappointing to read is how some followers said that in the past, they have left other bike shops feeling a little bit stupid, after attempting to fix something at home. Here at Mike Vaughan Cycles, we know how things can go wrong, especially if it's something that isn't done every day so we'll be sympathetic and helpful. We won't make you feel silly. No question is too daft. No question is too geeky.

Know How

For some, it's pure and simple - handing over your bike to the experts because they know how to fix it. Less time, less stress and a sure-fire back up for those more complex jobs. While many undertake their own maintenance, sometimes, reaching out to your local bike shop means the components are on hand, and the job is completed.

Trust

Our followers highly value trust, and rightly so. We take great pride in our reputation. We'll advise on what's best for you, and sometimes that means walking out of the shop not having spent a penny. Our trustworthiness has been built over many years - just take a look at our google reviews to see what our customers say.

Welcomed

Our followers quite rightly say that they want to feel welcomed. To us, it doesn't matter if you've haven't ridden a bike since you were a child, or if you're out riding whenever you're not sleeping, working or eating. Everyone's welcome.

What our customers think

Don't just take our word for it though. As a family business, we take grat pride in our customer service. This is what a few customers have to say.

"Very impressed with the service I received. Russ and Harrison were generous with their time in going through some potential solutions to issues with my bike, and clearly had a wealth of knowledge to share. Thank you for the excellent customer service, I will come back." Nicolas, Google Review, March 2026

"We purchased my wife's e-bike from the shop and the end-to-end experience was outstanding. They also delivered the bike to our home after performing a pre-delivery inspection and fitting a water bottle carrier. The workshop was very flexible & quick to fit the bike in for its 6 week, post-purchase checkup. The young chap in the workshop was extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Communication was excellent, throughout". Great local business, Mark, Google Review, February 2026

"Amazing service. Staff are friendly and welcoming and will help you find what you need or order it in. Experts in what they do." Rebecca, Google Review, February 2026

"I have been buying bikes and gear from Mike Vaughan's for many years and they have always been excellent in terms of advice and guidance on both MTB and road. They get to know your exact use and requirement and offer good contextual advice with no pressurised sales. The range of bikes, clothing and accessories is good and they are happy to have you browse. I would not hesitate to recommend them to both inexperienced or regular riders." Tony, Google Review, November 2025
